Mother’s Day Ideas 2025

27 Feb, 2025

Mother’s Day is the time to celebrate the matriarch in your life, making her feel special and appreciated. Read on for some inspo both in Brighton and further afield…

Butterfly Garden at Middleton Common Farm. Just a short drive outside of Brighton you will find the Butterfly Garden. Stroll through the tropical flight area which is an environment carefully controlled and monitored to ensure perfect conditions for the stunning live butterflies. The high temperature and humidity is created not only for the hundreds of tropical butterflies, but also sustains the tropical plants and flowers needed to enable the butterflies to feed, breed and lay their eggs. There is also a gift shop and tearoom on site. www.sussexbutterflygardens.co.uk

The Walled Garden at Cowdray. If it’s a road trip you crave and getting away from Brighton for the day, why not visit The Walled Garden at Cowdray? They are hosting a Mother’s Day afternoon tea between 12pm-4pm. Prepared by their team of top pastry chefs, The Yellow Kitchen Afternoon Tea follows the traditional combination of sweet and savoury, using locally sourced ingredients, reflective of the season. The Walled Garden is a historic and charming setting, located alongside the historic landmark known as Cowdray Ruins, which was once visited by Queen Elizabeth I and Henry VIII, and is a magnificent location to enjoy a sumptuous afternoon tea. The perfect setting to celebrate the queen in your life. www.cowdray.co.uk

Flygyrocopter. This activity is exhilarating to say the least and definitely not for the faint of heart. Treat your mum to a scenic flight over Sussex and the South Downs—or even an extended trip to the Isle of Wight for lunch! She’ll be flying in an open cockpit gyrocopter soaring through the elements and be in safe hands with a fully qualified pilot and instructor who was former Royal Navy and has amassed 30-years flying time. Not to be confused with a helicopter, a gyrocopters rotor blades aren’t powered by an engine. Instead, the engine powers a back propeller that pushes the gyrocopter forward. As the aircraft moves, air passes naturally through its rotor blades creating lift. www.flygyrocopter.co.uk
