London Days Out: Khao Bird At Bridget Jones’ flat

29 Apr, 2025

Bridget Jones, anti-heroine of the 90s (and beyond) is undoubtedly my favourite fictional character. Her quest to find true love, while attempting to conform to the unachievable beauty standards of that time, won the hearts of millions of girls (including mine). We all related to the ‘giant pant toting’ chain smoker who regularly guzzled wine and never felt quite good enough. Like a breath of fresh air, we needed Bridget — she made being a hot mess into a hilarious art form and suddenly we all felt a little better about our own misgivings.

The chance to experience Bridget’s flat above The Globe Pub in London presented itself and obviously I couldn’t wait to visit such hallowed ground. One train ride to London Bridge and a hop, skip and a jump later, we arrived at Borough Market. Ms Jones’ ex-residence is now a restaurant, Khao Bird, to be precise, and subsequent to downing Aperol Spritzes in The Globe, we made our way upstairs.

A warm greeting from the team who proffered a window seat overlooking the bustling streets below was received, in conjunction with a welcome glass of bubbles and food menus. Our host advised that five dishes are adequate for sharing and it all sounded delicious. We opted for shan meatballs, white corn ribs, prawn and pomelo salad, BBQ lemongrass chicken and mutton fries.

This is some of the best food to pass my lips, no exaggeration. Regular readers of my reviews will know I get to try some top notch-grub, and Khao Bird is currently my number-one recommendation.

The dishes we chose gave a broad spectrum of flavours, from the sweet and tangy, fresh plump prawn salad to the exquisite tender BBQ chicken with a gorgeous char, elevated further by a spicy dipping sauce. I couldn’t fault anything, from presentation to flavour.

We ended on a spicy margarita, perfectly blended and a wonderful send off to the sunny South Bank. If you’re looking for a dining experience that delivers, this place absolutely deserves your attention, Bridget Jones fan or not.
