Babble is the kind of venue that makes you wonder how you ever lived without it. Tucked along Hove seafront, this brand-new site has quickly claimed a prime position on my ‘must-visit’ list and, trust me, I’ve already been back twice.
We kicked things off with an elderflower spritz; light, floral, and perfectly balanced, it felt like sunshine in a glass and set the tone for what followed: starting with the single slam burger. Picture an ultra-juicy beef patty drenched in house-made burger sauce, topped with melted American cheese. Every bite was utterly delicious.
Next up was the chicken thigh a la plancha, served on pillow-soft Mamoosh flatbread. The chicken was beautifully charred, its smoky notes cutting through the sweetness of the smashed pickled slaw. A dollop of citrus yoghurt added a playful zing, while the crispy new potatoes soaked up every last drop of flavour. It was a vibrant dish that felt both hearty and light.
One of Babble’s standout features is its terrace, which runs the entire length of the venue. On warm days, this is where you want to be, seated in a comfy chair with an unobstructed view of the sea, a light breeze in your hair, and the promise of an exceptional evening ahead. Inside, huge floor-to-ceiling windows flood the space with natural light, complementing the ample indoor seating. The design-led venue build brings local artists Dan Walters and Lois O’Hara together in collaboration. With the first shoots of colour on show via the beachfront takeaway hatch, this theme continues inside with bright pops of colour offsetting natural wood and green leafy plants.
At the time of writing, Babble is open from sunup to sundown, ideal for an early caffeine hit, a leisurely brunch or a sunset dinner, though hours may evolve as the seasons change. The team is warm and attentive, striking the perfect balance between friendly banter and professional service.
Best of all, Babble is unapologetically family friendly. I spotted toddlers munching on fries, dogs living their best lives, couples sharing plates and groups of friends clinking glasses. If you’re looking for a relaxed, scenic spot with inventive dishes and a welcoming vibe, Babble is a winner. I can’t wait to return and I’m betting you’ll feel the same.
