Jem Ayres Orgasmic Embodiment

At a time when more and more women are questioning traditional relationship narratives, Brighton-based inclusive embodiment facilitator Jem Ayres is helping women (and couples) reconnect with themselves, their bodies and their sense of pleasure, on their own terms.

“I think there’s a massive shift happening,” Jem explains. “So many women are choosing to decentre romantic relationships and instead focus on themselves, their creativity and their communities. We’re building businesses, making our own money and channelling our energy into things that truly nourish us.”

Central to Jem’s work is the belief that women – often cast as carers – must learn to prioritise themselves. “Even those of us who aren’t mums are so often in caretaking roles,” she says. “But when we’re constantly giving from an empty cup, everyone loses. When women are resourced, everyone benefits.”

One of the ways Jem supports this reconnection is through her Empowered Women’s Book Club, a weekly online space that combines reading with embodied practices. “The books are really just the thread,” she says. “We don’t learn about our bodies or pleasure through reading alone. It’s about embodying the words, feeling them, and bringing them into real life.”

Alongside this, Jem runs The Woman’s Journey, a six-month, in-person programme focused on sexual self-development. “It’s about noticing what gets in the way of loving our bodies, being in pleasure and setting boundaries,” she explains. “Pleasure isn’t just sexual, it’s about how we live, rest, eat, move and care for ourselves.”

Jem works with women of all backgrounds, including many mums. “The message we receive is always that everyone else comes first,” she says. “But when we listen to our bodies, really listen, they tell us when we’re over-giving, pushing too hard or saying yes when we mean no.”

This Valentine’s season, Jem’s invitation is simple: choose yourself. “Our bodies hold deep wisdom,” she says. “When we trust them, we don’t just survive, we thrive.”

Jem’s next event, Woman’s Day: Awakening in Body, takes place on Sat 28 Mar in Brighton.
