Charleston: Summer conversations

1 Jul, 2026
Charleston

Charleston has unveiled an exciting new programme of intimate live events for Summer at Charleston, bringing together some of the world’s most celebrated creative minds for a series of thought-provoking conversations set against the stunning backdrop of the Sussex countryside.

Taking place inside the beautifully restored Hay Barn at Charleston in Firle, the summer programme promises a season filled with inspiring discussion, creativity and cultural exploration. Alongside the evening events, visitors can also enjoy Charleston’s historic House, Gardens and Galleries, which will be open seven days a week from 22 Jul–6 Sep, offering the perfect opportunity to combine a cultural escape with a memorable summer day out.

Melissa Perkins, head of programme and events, says: “This summer, we welcome an extraordinary gathering of artists, writers and performers whose work offers new ways of seeing the world around us. From the singular creative talents of Nick Cave, Susie Cave, Tilda Swinton and André Aciman to the voices challenging convention – Bob Geldof, Ione Gamble and Courttia Newland – join us for long, dreamy summer evenings of conversation and creativity in the heart of the Sussex countryside.”

Leading the exceptional line-up is acclaimed actor and artist Tilda Swinton, who joins journalist and Dazed co-founder Jefferson Hack on 23 Jul for an in-depth discussion exploring collaboration, creativity and the artistic partnerships that have helped shape her extraordinary career.

Book lovers can look forward to bestselling author André Aciman appearing on 3 Sep to discuss the new graphic novel adaptation of his much-loved novel Call Me by Your Name, alongside illustrator Sarah Maxwell.

Music fans are equally spoiled, with legendary musician Nick Cave joined by designer Susie Cave on 19 Sep to celebrate the release of Susie, a beautifully personal portrait exploring identity, devotion and family.

Also featured throughout the season are appearances from activist and musician Bob Geldof, author Courttia Newland, plus the return of Queer Bloomsbury – a vibrant evening of performance, conversation and celebration.

Tickets are on general sale now.
