Day Fever: Daytime disco phenomenon
What if your next big night out started at 3pm and you were still home in time for bed? That’s the brilliantly simple idea behind Day Fever, the daytime clubbing phenomenon created by actor Vicky McClure, her husband Jonny Owen and Reverend & The Makers’ Jon McClure.
Now taking its feel-good formula around the UK, Day Fever is heading back to Brighton’s Concorde 2 on Sat 3 Oct, with the party kicking off at 3pm. The concept is straightforward – great music, a brilliant venue and a crowd who have come purely to dance. There’s no dress code, no VIP attitude and, according to its founders, no need to overthink it.
For McClure, one of the most rewarding aspects has been watching Day Fever become much more than a club night. “We’re all dealing with something, and we all need each other’s support – and music,” she says. The events have become spaces where people can let go, connect with strangers and simply enjoy themselves for a few hours.
That welcoming atmosphere is central to the Day Fever experience. People arrive in groups for birthdays, hen parties and reunions, while others come alone and quickly find themselves part of the crowd. McClure says she has heard countless stories from people who hadn’t danced in years, or who were going through difficult periods, but found themselves smiling again on the Day Fever dancefloor. The music policy is equally uncomplicated, expect the greatest hits of the 20th century, with everything from Madonna and Madness to Pulp, Prince, The Stone Roses and The Rolling Stones.
Owen says the original ambition was simply to create somewhere people would feel at home, a place with brilliant music where they could return again and again. That idea has clearly struck a chord, with Day Fever now attracting thousands of dancers across the country and building a reputation for friendly, inclusive parties.
