One Garden Brighton welcomes autumn
As summer starts to fade and the first signs of autumn appear, September is a wonderful time to explore one of Brighton’s most beautiful green spaces. One Garden Brighton offers a peaceful escape from the city – and there’s plenty happening throughout the month.
Open daily from 9:00 to 17:00 during the spring and summer season, the garden is free to enter and offers plenty of reasons to make the trip out to Stanmer Park.
September’s programme gets off to a creative start with the Monthly Watercolour & Mixed Media Workshop on 3 Sept, offering the chance to combine creativity with the inspiring surroundings of the gardens.
Foodies can also raise a glass on 10 Sept at the English Wine & Cheese Tasting with Plumpton Estate. Running from 19:00 to 21:30, it’s an opportunity to discover locally produced English wine alongside a selection of cheeses, a very Sussex way to spend a Thursday evening.
For anyone keen to get their hands dirty, September also marks the beginning of a new season of horticultural learning at One Garden. A number of courses begin during the month, including RHS practical horticulture qualifications, herbalism and an Introduction to Horticulture course aimed at beginners.
The gardens also continue their regular creative programme, with another Watercolour & Mixed Media Workshop taking place on 18 Sept.
Then things get a little livelier. On 19 Sept, Melting Vinyl presents Melting Sundown, running from 18:00 until 23:00 – giving visitors the chance to enjoy an evening event in the unique surroundings of One Garden.
The following day, 20 Sept, brings What You Wish Your Mother Taught You About Herbal Medicine, running from 10:00 to 15:00 – perfect for anyone interested in plants and their traditional uses.
And even when there isn’t an event on, One Garden is worth the trip. Explore its restored walled garden, browse plants grown on site, stop for coffee and freshly baked treats at the café, or pick up Sussex produce and locally sourced goods from One Market.
September might signal the end of summer, but at One Garden Brighton, the changing season brings a whole new reason to get outside.
