Seven Dials in focus: independent, local and full of character
There’s something rather special about the Seven Dials. One of Brighton’s most proudly independent neighbourhoods, it’s home to a brilliant mix of cafés, pubs, boutiques and restaurants. Each with its own story, personality and something different to offer.
Tucked just far enough away from the buzz of the Lanes and seafront, the Dials is still only a 15-minute walk from both, earning it the estate agents’ nickname of ‘the 15-minute neighbourhood’. Or as locals call it, handy.
With its beautiful Victorian terraces and nod to the famous Seven Dials in Covent Garden, the area has also earned the nickname ‘Little London’. Originally built in the 1800s for Brighton’s growing population of middle-class commuters, more than a century later it remains a popular spot for families, commuters and busy Brightonians looking for a central yet peaceful place to call home. Not everything from the past needs bringing back, though. We’ll happily leave the infamous traffic junction in the history books, thankfully redesigned in 2013.
Today, Seven Dials is all about independent businesses, creative talent and a strong sense of community. So this month, we’re shining a spotlight on some of our favourite places in the area, celebrating the businesses that make the Dials what it is and giving you a few more reasons to make the journey up the hill. Trust us, it is worth it.
