The Maker’s Fair 12-13/8

30 Jul, 2023

The Maker’s Fair Summer Weekender at One Garden Brighton, Stanmer Park, Lewes Road, BN1 9SE.

Saturday, August 12th – Sunday, August 13th, 11:00 AM – 5:00 PM.

Brighton’s creative spirit shines brighter than ever during the highly anticipated Maker’s Fair Summer Weekender at One Garden Brighton. This annual event, which has become a staple in the local calendar, showcases some of the very best artistic talent in the South. With a carefully curated display of up to 70 stalls from artists and designers, the Maker’s Fair promises a delightful experience for art enthusiasts and curious visitors alike.

The Summer Weekender: Explore the artist and maker stalls scattered throughout the surroundings of One Garden Brighton: a beautiful, blooming walled garden on the Stanmer Park estate. From paintings and garden sculptures to innovative designs, ceramics and jewellery, there’s something to captivate every audience. The event is free to enter, dog friendly and fully accessible.

Practical Demonstrations: In recent years, there has been a re-ignited appreciation of traditional creative skills that hold profound roots in our heritage. Beyond the array of stalls, The Maker’s Fair summer weekender offers an enriching experience through a display of practical demonstrations. Witness skilled makers at work throughout the weekend, demonstrating wood carving, willow weaving, wheel throwing, and more. This is a great opportunity to talk to the artists, ask questions, and hopefully become inspired to turn your hand to something new.

A Historical Gem: One Garden Brighton, the venue for The Maker’s Fair Summer Weekender, holds its own charm and historical significance. Nestled within the picturesque Stanmer Park Estate, the venue is a regenerated garden surrounded by historical walls that stand as a testament to the past. Whether you’re looking to relax and dine at the garden’s restaurant and café or shop for local produce at the market shop, there’s no shortage of things to do.

The Maker’s Fair: Where it all began: In 2019, local paper artist, Lauren Hayes set out to create an event that celebrated other contemporary artists and designers in the area. The Maker’s Fair started in the arty Brighton community of Fiveways and began to grow in popularity amongst visitors and the wider artist community in the city. Renowned for its high-quality and meticulously curated stalls, The Maker’s Fair remains eagerly anticipated events for all. This year the fairs are being held at several different venues throughout the year including The Old Market Theatre, St. George’s in Kemptown and All Saints Church in Hove.
