Foodilic Review

1 Sep, 2023

Foodilic focuses on vegan, vegetarian and gluten free produce and has been a staple on the Brighton restaurant landscape for many years. Most people are familiar with the sight of freshly prepared salads piled in bowls in the window on North Street, luring in shoppers as they walk past.

The business demand required bigger premises and Foodilic has now moved to a larger location situated in Western Road. Nestled in between the high street giants, you will still find the trademark salads in the window, but the new venue is bigger and brighter, boasting high ceilings and big glass windows.

I was invited along to review this long standing eatery and didn’t realise that brunch was also an option, and (wrongly) assumed it was health foods only, so was delighted to discover a hefty menu served daily until 2pm. Brunch is breakfast for lazy people and by the time I arrived at 11.30am I was more than ready to eat.

The sunshine dictated we were going to sit outside on some rather fabulous hand carved wooden seating, the space at the front of the restaurant offers an ideal vantage point for observing the lively Western Road shopping area.

The friendly staff promptly seated my companion and me, and we wasted no time in perusing the extensive brunch menu.

After much deliberation, I settled on the classic eggs Benedict while my companion opted for the hearty full English breakfast. Both choices were met with enthusiasm. The eggs Benedict were flawlessly executed, with perfectly poached eggs resting atop a bed of sliced ham and a toasted English muffin. The velvety hollandaise sauce added a creamy richness that elevated the dish to new heights. Each bite was a harmonious blend of flavors that left me craving for more.

The full English breakfast was a feast for the eyes and the stomach. It boasted all the traditional components, including bacon, sausage, eggs, mushrooms, tomatoes, baked beans, and toast. Every element was cooked to perfection, with the bacon crispy, the sausage juicy, and the eggs perfectly fried.

To complement our brunch, we both opted for iced vanilla lattes. The refreshing blend of espresso, milk, and vanilla syrup was the perfect accompaniment to the warm weather. The lattes were expertly crafted, with just the right balance of sweetness and coffee flavor. Sipping on these cool beverages while basking in the sun made for a truly enjoyable dining experience.
