31/12. Fever is Putting on the Blitz for their latest extravaganza by celebrating the club that kicked off the New Romantic era of the 1980s. The Blitz Club was founded by Steve Strange and Rusty Egan after they met on the Kings Road at the height of the punk boom and catered to a crowd excited by the new electronic sounds that were emerging at the time. The club attracted a crowd of flamboyant misfits that would go on to shape the musical course of the next decade and beyond. Boy George, Marilyn and Martin Degville of Sigue Sigue Sputnik were all regulars and Spandau Ballet did their first gigs at the club. The night was put on hold as the organiser’s band, Visage and their single, Fade to Grey, became a worldwide success. Tonight you can relive those fun, heady days where punk met pop and Kid Creole met soul. theoldmarket.com
