The Art of Jewellery

Jeremy Hoye has been at the forefront of non-conformist jewellery design in his shop in Brighton for 29 years. The building situated in the North Laine was once a grand Victorian pub, now houses Jeremy’s  workshop and remarkable designs.

The brand was established in 1994, his first full collection, which is still a best-seller today, was released in 1995. The collections always include everything from earrings, necklaces, rings and more. We caught up with Jeremy to chat about his varied and interesting career.

What inspires you when you design your jewellery?

I am inspired by texture, of a look and feel. I trained as a traditional goldsmith, so the design is self-taught. I probably have more ideas than I have time to design to be honest.

What is your favourite piece?

That’s very hard to say, it’s usually my latest piece as I love the newness. My most recent design was a four carat, emerald cut diamond in platinum which was in my Luna style. It’s called Luna because the texture is reminiscent of the moon. People approach me for bespoke pieces all the time, and I work with them to create something beautiful in my own style.

Have you designed for any famous people?

At one point I used to supply Virgin Airlines, who sold our jewellery on flight, we used to sell navel bars, earrings and pendants. We were their biggest seller at one point. I’ve also worked with BMG Records where I designed for Slash from Guns N Roses, Avril Lavigne, Faithless, Victoria Beckham, The Rolling Stones…

What is the most unusual project you’ve been asked to do?

I designed for EA Sports on The Simms games, so that was quite different. We wanted to release the line of jewellery that came from that project, but there were too many complications so it remained virtual.

Do you have affordable pieces of jewellery?

I do, my prices start at £70 up to about 12k, so there is something to suit all budgets.

What’s your go to item?

I love the men’s rings I design, many other jewellers don’t design men’s rings and mine are really popular due to their stand out design. I also love my wedding bands, if you are after something that isn’t plain, then come and see me. I design in gold and platinum.
