Shaun Ryder, the man Factory Records boss Tony Wilson thought was a wordsmith on a par with W.B. Yeats, is probably best known to the general public as runner-up on ITV’s I’m a Celebrity….Get Me Out of Here! But in the late eighties and early nineties he was the epitome of cool and a leading figure in the explosive Madchester scene alongside dancer Bez and the rest of Happy Mondays. After a string of hits including Hallelujah and Step On, the band dissolved in 1993. They reformed briefly at the end of the decade but in 2012 cemented their return with the original line up and have been at it ever since. They tragically lost their guitarist (and Ryder’s brother) in 2022 but are setting out on their first headline tour in five years. Support comes from Manchester legends Inspiral Carpets and Nottingham’s dance trailblazers, Stereo MCs.
