Tiki Hut Brighton

Our Editor went to check out the refurb of the former Le Village on St James’ Street and was amazed at the dramatic transformation.

Tiki Hut, situated on St James’ Street in Brighton has undergone a dramatic transformation. The new owners spared no expense on a jaw dropping refurb that has completely transformed the rundown venue in just a few short months.

Starting with the outside area, the grubby red marquee cover has been replaced by tropical style grass that now houses smart wooden furniture and a traditional oil drum BBQ used for cooking jerk chicken on the weekends. The former lacklustre, grey wall sports a huge tropical themed mural, adding some much needed colour to the neglected space while giving an indication on what to expect from the new venue.

Upon entry, there is brand new furniture throughout and the tiki theme extends to the new bar which also has bamboo and tropical grass as a feature. You can buy expertly shaken cocktails, beers, wines and spirits from midday to 1am, seven days a week.

The outside area has always been a selling point of this venue, except now not only can you sit and watch the world go by, but also enjoy delicious Caribbean fusion food such as jerk chicken, rice and peas and plantain. Everything is cooked fresh in-house from the newly appointed kitchen, apart from at weekends when you can smell the BBQ all the way down the street.

Look out for a new lunchtime promotion (which will include takeout) of a smaller portion of chicken and rice with a drink from £10. More drink promos are also incoming that will include happy hour cocktails – in our opinion the perfect place and prices to kick back for an after work drink.

Formally known as Glamorous Bar, and prior to that Le Village, the venue has always been an LGBTQ+ inclusive space and continues to be so. Tiki Bar will be part of the Pride Street Party happening on the first weekend in August, giving you a chance to try some of the delicious food and girate on the dancefloor.

The venue is also available for private hire with a state of the art sound system and an in-house event planner who is happy to help organise entertainment (and of course food) whatever your requirements.

Discover highly recommends this independent, family run business who have put their hearts into making the space somewhere you will want to visit.

P.S – The toilets have received the same treatment…
