The Best Beer Gardens

28 Jun, 2024

Words by Samantha Harman

Summer is well and truly upon us, and aside from the occasional questionable weather, (hey, we live in the UK right?) it’s the perfect season for sipping pints and spritzes al fresco – here are some of our editors’ picks of favorite outside spaces to give you inspo on where to go to catch those rays.

Tapestry Hove – Following a recent refurb, the former Libation Bar in Hove is the perfect place to spend a summer evening sipping Prosecco and watching the world go by. There’s also a retractable roof to combat the weather. (Read our food review in this month’s issue) @tapestryhove

Daddy Long Legs – This informal gastro pub has a food menu to die for. The venue has a cute secluded beer garden and as of the end of June will be firing up Sunday BBQs! Well behaved children and dogs are welcome until 9pm and the pub is situated near to East Brighton Park so you could enjoy a picturesque stroll before enjoying a well earned pint! @daddylonglegsbrighton

Horatio’s Palace Pier – Located at the end of the pier you will find this laid-back contemporary pub which features a waterside terrace. Perfect for watching the world go by and a great meeting point if you have older children enjoying the pier attractions! @brightonpalacepier

The Setting Sun – This quirky independent pub boasts views over the city that can be enjoyed from their covered terrace (also slightly wind proof) The aptly named boozer is the perfect place to watch the sun set and the challenging hill walk means you will be more than ready for that pint by the time you arrive! @settingsunbn2

The Islingword – Another Hanover gem situated near to Queen’s Park is the Islingword. The giant disco ball in the window will certainly catch your eye when you arrive. The beer garden here is a decent size and has both covered and exposed seating for those sunny days. The chicken wings are pretty good too! @islingword_brighton

The Joker – We can’t mention chicken wings without talking about this pub! The owners spent a chunk of change last year and created a gorgeous roof garden which is attached to the rest of the building. It’s a city paradise and ideal for watching the world go by while you enjoy the best wings in Brighton. @the.joker.brighton

Brighton Cocktail Co – Winging your way up to Seven Dials is definitely worth it. The beer garden here is secluded and quiet with loads of comfy seating. The cocktails are really decent too and you can expect to receive a warm welcome from the team. @brightoncocktail
