This month we chat to the person behind the I’m Just Brighton Instagram account (who wanted to remain anonymous). The page which has amassed 90k followers, is a light hearted account that shares reels, news and images of the city

What inspired you to start I’m Just Brighton?

There’s no news pages like ours in Brighton, all the other pages you have to click a link to see the news. I wanted to create something immediate that people could access without difficulty. News has changed now, people want to see it in real time.

How do you feel about having so many followers? 90k and counting… It’s actually quite scary to be honest to have so many followers, this is why I am choosing to stay anonymous because I’m not after fame! I worry that people might stop me in town. Sometimes we post things that might p*ss people off that they don’t want uploading. We can legally upload whatever we like as it is filmed in a public place! Generally speaking though we upload only funny and positive posts and we don’t like to upset people too much. It feels crazy to have 90k followers and I am really grateful for the support from everyone.

What do you think it is that draws people to your page? What drives people to the page is the immediacy of what I post, my followers want the news straight away and they get that on my page. Also people love Brighton as so many quirky and fun things occur here that wouldn’t happen elsewhere.

Are people allowed to send content to you?

Absolutely yes! People send things all the time and I upload everything myself. People think it’s a team, but actually it’s just me that does everything at the moment, although that may change over time.

Name three things you love about Brighton the most? There’s so much I love about Brighton it’s hard to pin down just three. First of all its the people, I love how everyone is so different and so happy to be around one another. Next it’s the sea. I love living by the sea, I’ve always grown up next to it and it’s amazing. I also love the skies here, the sunshine (when we get it) and the colourful sunsets they are really magical. I also love all of the different pubs here, there’s such a wide variety offering food, live music and DJs, you can never be bored living here there’s always something fun happening.
