Tisbury Roasts at The Lewes Road Inn

11 Oct, 2024

Our editor visits The Lewes Road Inn with her family for Tisbury roast dinners and far too much Malbec (hic).

Big news. Russell Tisbury has set up culinary camp at The Lewes Road Inn, Brighton. In conjunction with bagging one of the best chefs in the city, the venue has also undergone a show stopping refurb.

The space now boasts captivating artwork, a pool table, doggy water station and colourful murals adorn the walls of the generous outside area. The vibes are immaculate and every Sunday, aside from banging roasts you can also expect to find DJs playing chilled tunes.

We opted for pork belly, roast beef and lamb. (There were three of us, I am not that greedy believe it or not) The roasts come with; garlic and herb roast potatoes, (perfect fluffy/crunchy ratio) glazed beetroot and carrots, root vegetable mash, cauliflower cheese and buttered greens.

When I tell you the Yorkshire Pudding was so big you could wear it as a hat, I am not joking.

My pork belly came topped with a perfect crispy sliver of crackling, the beef was pink in the middle and melted in the mouth and the lamb was incredibly tender. No complaints of chewy meat here. We also ordered a side of cauliflower cheese and pigs in blankets which certainly hit the spot.

I have eaten Russell’s roasts before and can honestly tell you they just keep getting better. To finish we shared a sticky toffee pudding with ice cream and apple and cinnamon crumble and custard. These are my go to comfort desserts.

The sticky toffee was a delicately spiced, sweet, sticky bowl of heaven and the crumble was wholesome goodness and eating it made me feel like Autumn has finally arrived. At the time of writing this, I feel like I’ve swallowed a small child – we couldn’t finish all of the food so takeaway boxes are currently in my fridge ready for reheating later.

Sundays are sacred in my household and we’re all happy to have found somewhere that echoes this sentiment. The team is friendly and can’t do enough for you and Tisbury roasts are undoubtedly one of the best in the city. Get yourselves down there. Pronto.
