Paris Wine Bar

27 May, 2022

Paris Wine Bar is a well loved hotspot in central Hove, with outside seating front and back where you can enjoy an amazing array of wines, beers and spirits while catching some rays. It has recently undergone a transformation with the rear garden now boasting a retractable sun roof and state of the art heating.

I was invited along to try the Tapas menu and first impressions were good, the garden truly is an oasis of calm away from busy Church Road. Stylish black and white furniture is offset by a living wall, tons of green foliage and a dark tiled floor. My dining partner and I settled into a table at the rear of the garden to catch maximum sunlight. Moments later our waitress appeared with the extremely varied menu and the large glass of Sauvignon Blanc I’d requested on my way through (hey, when in Paris right?).

Sidenote: The Sauvignon Blanc is from New Zealand and incredibly easy to drink and at 13% proof I was a little bit tipsy after two glasses. They were large ones though.

Back to the food; mini burgers with chips, scallops with crispy bacon and minted peas, chicken skewers and fish stew. Quite an unusual combination, but we wanted to sample a good variety. Firstly the presentation was exquisite, the food arrived promptly on black plates and was a feast for the eyes.

The fish stew was giant king prawns, shells on, mussels and chunks of white fish, piled high floating in the most delicious consomme, it came with its own bread basket, miniature french sticks and garlic butter. The scallops were cooked to perfection, very soft and seasoned well, I was impressed with the portion size too. The chips were certainly not frozen, hand cut and chunky, just how I like them and they went well with the mini burgers that as it transpired weren’t that mini.

Overall, amazing service, the staff are really friendly and helpful, the food is fabulous and I’ll definitely be returning very soon.
