Hervé’s Café

29 Nov, 2024

Little Miss Piggies Cafe is no more and many regular visitors on St James’s Street in Brighton were extremely sad to hear the bad news. However, the good news is, that the space has remained as a cafe and reopened under new ownership.

Welcome Herve’s Cafe. The venue has French themed decor and in keeping with this have hired a native Frenchman, Quentin, as manager who is charm personified (with a little sass thrown in for good measure). The menu features all of the breakfast classics such as Eggs Benedict and a full English which my partner and I plumped for.

While we waited for the food to be served we enjoyed a delicious fresh orange juice which I heard being squeezed in the kitchen and a well made Cappuccino. Moments later, we were presented with our food.

I am happy to report It was a delicious breakfast and we enjoyed every bite. Crispy bacon, a sausage which was clearly good quality, a runny egg, crunchy hash brown, flavorful mushrooms, a juicy warm tomato, a little pot of baked beans and a slice of toast. I’ll admit to a heavy Saturday night so this Sunday breakfast was much needed and certainly aided my recovery.

My partner commented on the creaminess of the Hollandaise which topped decent slices of proper ham (not out of a packet) and golden runny eggs sitting on top of a lightly toasted muffin. Empty plates were taken away and we left feeling satisfied and ready for a blustery seafront walk with the dog.

Would I visit again? Absolutely. If for no other reason than to visit Quentin for a good old gossip and a cup of tea.
