Pop Specs / Revolutionary Eyewear

27 Dec, 2024

The founders of Pop Specs story is inspiring to say the least. Two friends who met at university came up with a groundbreaking idea that would shake up the eyewear industry and then pitched that idea successfully to Dragon’s Den on BBC 1.

Lina and Dan are the dynamic duo behind revolutionary eyewear brand, Pop Specs. In September 2019, they first crossed paths while pursuing master’s degrees at the University of Chester.

Lina, with a financial background grew up as a tennis player, but had always wanted to have her own business. Dan, on the other hand, was a seasoned business man with over two decades in the optical industry. As they attended classes, and study groups, a friendship blossomed. They shared not only a common educational pursuit but a profound passion for eyewear. The more they delved into the world of optics, the clearer it became that their combined skills and expertise could bring about a significant change in the eyewear industry.

Pop Specs appeared on the BBC One show Dragons’ Den and secured a £75,000 investment from three dragons. Dragons’ Den investors: Touker Suleyman, Peter Jones, and Sara Davies each invested £25,000 in exchange for a 4% stake in the business.

The dragons were impressed with Lina and Dan’s idea when they explained how they wanted to make buying glasses more affordable, quick, and fun. The focus is on affordability, Pop Specs offer glasses starting at £75. Speed, Pop Specs can make prescription lenses in 20 minutes. Fun, Pop Specs aims to make the eyewear shopping experience enjoyable.

The founders’ vision was to disrupt the eyewear industry by offering a wide range of stylish and affordable glasses. They wanted to make glasses accessible to all, and to empower people to change their eyewear depending on their mood or what they’re wearing.

You can visit Churchill Square to experience Popspecs for yourself.
