Review / Brighton’s TV Game Show

30 Jan, 2025

Have you ever found yourself screaming the correct answer at the TV during The Chase or wanting to give Jeremy Clarkson a run for his money on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? If so, this one’s for you.

Forget the tedious pub quiz or the overpriced escape room – Brighton’s TV Game Show has landed head-first into North Laine, offering an interactive experience that cautions one side effect: fits of laughter from everyone involved.

Back in December, the Discover Brighton team and I were lucky enough to try out Brighton’s shiny new TV Game Show, tucked away beneath the lively North Laine Brewhouse. After a quick stop at the bar for some dutch courage to fuel our fighting talk, we were whisked away by our charismatic host for the evening. With her infectious energy and tickling one-liners, we were soon floating alongside her in the same bubble of excitement.

With anticipation high, stepping into the Live Studio from the Green Room feels like entering an actual TV set. Simple yet effective, the set design is excellent, capturing the atmosphere of a live broadcast perfectly with its bold lighting and professional sound effects (though thankfully, our hysterics were not streamed to the nation). Whether it’s the bright lights or the hilarious host’s rapid-fire banter, group dynamics are elevated to comedic gold. Prepare to watch your opponents squirm under pressure, and good luck keeping a straight face when it’s your turn.

The game itself lasts about an hour – plenty of time to rack your brains as you partake in a variety of rounds, ensuring everyone gets a chance to step underneath the spotlight. The challenges lean more toward problem-solving, memory and technique rather than just general knowledge, making them accessible to all ages. Plus, the experience was certainly ‘prosecco-proofed’ – in other words, it was achievable after a few glasses of fizz when optimum brain power is on standby mode (still, I came in second!).

All in all, drawing inspiration from classics like Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, Taskmaster, and The Generation Game, Brighton’s TV Game Show has perfected the formula for fun, light-hearted escapism with friends, family or work colleagues. Starting at just £17.00 per person, it’s a much more affordable alternative to the common escape room—and far more ridiculous, in the best possible way.
