Beating the January Blues! / StylePixie

27 Dec, 2024

Some of us may feel a drop in energy as fatigue sets in with the post-Christmas slump. After all the joy and merriment of the silly season, we are now faced with a more mundane diary and the days are dark and cold. But cosy up, as this can be a perfect time for a reset and focusing on small, manageable and sustainable goals can bring about larger wins as the year progresses.

The pesky question of ‘New Years Resolutions’ doesn’t need to evoke the idea of failing grandiose transformations, micro goal setting is what it is all about these days when we want to create new and sustainable habits. When it comes to our wardrobes, they can have a large impact on how we go about our days. If they are disorganized, if we look upon them with dread and fear and don’t find them to be enjoyable spaces, then these feelings can spill into other aspects of our lives.

So, pop on your favourite pod cast or upbeat music, make yourself a cup of tea and let’s use this time to reset our wardrobes to spaces we love to spend time in.

Let’s break it down. You don’t need to tackle the entire job in one go.

  • Start with removing all the occasional wear items that you got out for the silly season.
  • Tackle common clutter areas, this could be shoes, accessories, scarves or that chair that you pile things up on.
  • Drawer by drawer. Rather than pulling everything out at once, focusing on one drawer or set of drawers each time can be therapeutic and more thorough.
  • Hanging spaces – Showcase the seasonal clothes you are wearing right now. This makes for a lot less wardrobe overwhelm.
  • Make a visual difference – Using matching hangers and drawer dividers to create a clear picture.
  • Sumptuous additions – Consider scented drawer liners, scented hanging bags and room fragrance to keep the space feeling fresh and your clothes smelling nice.
  • Adopt some ground rules for your space. One in, one out for example will stop the space becoming cluttered again.
  • Normalise organising our outfits for the following day, the night before.

Now celebrate your progress, a well organised space can be a much more inspiring place to start your days. And when our days start without chaos this has a knock-on effect to our overall well-being.

Happy New Year

Till next time
