Brighton Fringe / FESTIVAL WUNDABARN

29 Apr, 2025

Editor’s top picks

This May, the city will come alive with the vibrant energy of SpiegelGardens, the most central Brighton Fringe venue, nestled in the picturesque Victoria Gardens. With 31 electrifying nights, more than 90 extraordinary artists and an atmosphere bursting with excitement, SpiegelGardens promises to be the epicentre of Brighton Fringe. SpiegelGardens unfolds across four unique spaces, each designed to tantalise your senses. At the heart of it all lies the WundaBarn, home of the spectacular show-stopping events. Alongside, the Spotlight bandstand will dazzle with the best free live entertainment and spontaneous pop-up showcases Fringe City has to offer.

C’est Magnifique 2-30 May

WundaBarn @ SpiegelGardens

C’est Magnifique, brought to you by Chocolate Box Theatre, is a little piece of escapist heaven for any fan of musical theatre. Travel back in time to an imagined cabaret night haunt in Paris or Berlin in the 1930s. This whole show oozes sexiness, sassiness, sensuality and sophistication. It’s a tip of the hat towards hedonism, yet embraces the old and the new in musical theatre in perfect balance. It’s an example of consummate professionalism with super audience banter from Cyril. This is immersive theatre as it’s finest.

ShakeItUp: The Improvised Shakespeare Show 3-17 May

Shakespeare hasn’t written anything new for an age, so ShakeItUp thought they would give him a hand… Using his language, your audience suggestions, and their overactive imaginations, ShakeItUp create a brand new Shakespeare play live on stage, complete with live music, songs and plenty of laughs. Pick your authentic Shakespearean genre: epic history, romantic comedy, or gruesome tragedy! Pen your wittiest Shakespearean line for our brave actors to pull from their suitably Shakespearean breeches when they need a helping hand. The twist? They’ll have no idea what the line will be before they say it!

David Hoyle — Mayday Mayday!

One Night Only 14 May

David Hoyle returns to his beloved Brighton this May for one night only! Prepare for an unforgettable hour of cutting-edge cabaret, sharp-witted humour and fearless social commentary, whilst keeping it light and frothy. David is the original performance avalanche – an all-singing, all-raging bona-fide performance legend. He has appeared in his own Channel 4 TV series, in films and on stages worldwide.
