Brighton & Hove Museums is unveiling an exciting autumn programme across its venues, bringing together fashion, popular culture, digital art, photography, history and family-friendly experiences.
At Brighton Museum & Art Gallery, fashion takes centre stage with The Biba Look: Photography and Fashion (from 3 Oct), showcasing rare archival photographs from Barbara Hulanicki alongside original mail-order garments from the iconic 1960s and 70s brand.
Opening the same weekend, And So I Watch You From Afar is a thought-provoking photography exhibition focused on environmental change; and Where are all the Lesbians? explores hidden queer histories. Young Carers. Big Voices. A Fairer Future, from Oct 6, and is a powerful photographic project celebrating young carers across the city.
From 24 Oct, visitors can go behind the scenes of one of television’s biggest entertainment shows in Making the Masked Singer, featuring spectacular costume designs created by Brighton-based studio Plunge Creations. Families can also enjoy Magic Place, an interactive digital installation by artists Genetic Moo, where projected worlds respond to visitors in real time.
Football fans can continue to explore Brighton & Hove Albion: Stand or Fall, the permanent exhibition celebrating 125 years of Seagulls history through memorabilia, fan stories and a detailed stadium model.
At the Royal Pavilion, the popular Dragons exhibition continues until 1 Nov, inviting visitors to discover the mythical creatures hidden throughout the palace’s extraordinary architecture and interiors. Hove Museum of Creativity will host a headline exhibition by acclaimed photographer Alma Haser as part of the Photoworks Festival from 24 Oct. Visitors can also enjoy the museum’s film gallery celebrating Brighton’s pioneering filmmakers, alongside family favourites including the Wizard’s Lab and displays by Sussex makers.
Although the Booth Museum of Natural History remains closed for refurbishment, special behind-the-scenes diorama store tours will take place on selected dates throughout October.
For those seeking a Halloween thrill, Preston Manor’s Ghostly Gatherings return on selected Friday evenings throughout October, offering atmospheric tours through one of Britain’s most famously haunted houses.
