Brighton Running Girls

This month we chat to Aimee and Elle, organisers of Brighton Running Girls, a free run club that takes place twice a week. You can catch them every Sunday morning at 9:00 and on Wednesday  evenings at 18:30. The girls leave from Spro Coffee Shop on Western Road in Hove.

Tell us why you started your running club? We accidentally started BRG to meet girls in the city and not run alone – especially at night. We wanted to create a safe space for females who enjoy running and this led us to create the most wholesome club!

What can girlies expect from a typical session? Twice weekly social run clubs and tons of fun community events – all fitness and community based. Plus the chance to make new friends with like-minded females in a supportive environment.

Are you beginner friendly? Yes, we’d say so. We’d suggest runners feel comfortable running around 2.5km before joining us though. On every 5km run we stop at 2.5km to regroup and have a yap. We advertise our pace as 6/6.30per km, but the girlies are all super supportive – you will be sure to find a running buddy!

Do you create any social events outside of running together? We also organise team socials, which don’t involve running – think beach picnics and pub quizzes. Some BRG girls have won LSKD activewear vouchers at our events, thanks to our partnership with LSKD.

What has been the best thing about setting up the club for you? There have been many amazing things that have come from BRG. One of the best things is being able to watch all of the friendships that have blossomed from the social connection BRG has enabled. And being able to watch ladies’ running journeys begin and develop is super inspiring, and motivates us to want keep building a valued community, which we love.

Tell us three things you love about Brighton? The different communities – there’s something for everyone. Local businesses and the coffee and pastry culture. The beaches and the South Downs – make some perfect runs.
