Burger & Beyond review

Does Brighton need another burger joint? The short answer is yes…

Burger & Beyond has officially landed in Brighton, taking over the former Patty & Bun site on Ship Street in the heart of The Lanes, and it’s safe to say the new owners have spared no expense giving the space a seriously stylish makeover. Sleek contemporary interiors, warm lighting and an effortlessly cool atmosphere create the perfect setting for what turned out to be one of our favourite meals of the summer.

We kicked things off with a couple of irresistible starters. The caramel, cocoa and chilli wings were sticky, sweet and fiery. Alongside came a side of mozzarella V&P – crisp, golden fried mozzarella served with a creamy vodka sauce, vibrant pesto and crumbed parmesan. A rich, indulgent and delicious start.

For mains, I couldn’t resist the 250g dry-aged rib-eye steak, which arrived beautifully cooked and served with roasted bone marrow, accompanied by a crisp Caesar salad, fries smothered in bone-marrow gravy and, quite honestly, the star of the entire meal for me. I’d happily order a bowl of the gravy on its own.

My dining partner ordered the hot honey chicken burger, an absolute beast of a burger featuring a buttermilk fried chicken thigh topped with candied chillies, hot honey, ranch, sriracha butter and house pickles, all tucked inside a soft demi-brioche bun. It  was glorious.

We also shared the truffle tots – crispy potato tots topped with truffle aioli, Parmesan and sage, which disappeared embarrassingly quickly.

To wash it all down, we sampled a couple of the rum-based cocktails, which were every bit as impressive as the food. Fresh, punchy and expertly mixed.

Brighton certainly isn’t short of brilliant burger restaurants, but Burger & Beyond brings something refreshingly different to the city. From its premium dry-aged beef and bold flavours to its stylish new home and faultless attention to detail, every dish felt carefully considered.

Whether you’re visiting for one of their legendary burgers or venturing beyond the buns and trying the steak, this is a restaurant that delivers on every level. Trust me when I say you’ll love it.
