Does Burger and Lobster in Brighton live up to the hype? Our editor went along to find out…
Over ten-years ago in a small Irish pub in Mayfair, the first Burger and Lobster was born. You can now find their restaurants across the globe and more importantly, here in Brighton.
I was expecting an American style diner and was pleasantly surprised to find something far more high-end. Boujee is a word that springs to mind with stunning chandeliers and comfortable booths as well as open plan seating. The space lends itself well to either a lunchtime jaunt or evening celebration.
One of the first things you notice is a neon sign on the wall adjacent to the bar that reads; ‘Welcome Home Pleasure Seekers’, an apt statement as my dining partner and I were about to discover.
Delicious rum-based cocktails were promptly delivered to our booth, filled to the brim with crushed ice and on-point garnishes by our magnanimous host Terry, who gave food recommendations.
Starters consisted of grilled prawns with Brighton hot sauce butter and lobster and Wagyu beef croquettes, all of which were a taste sensation. Tender sweet king prawns with a smoky undertone from the grilling process were devoured in minutes and don’t get me started on the cheese pull from the interior of the croquettes.
We followed with the burger and lobster combo and the lobster combo. I have been dying to try a lobster roll (stalking their Instagram page had me drooling Homer Simpson style) and it didn’t disappoint. You receive toasted brioche bread filled with lobster smothered in lemon mayo and pourable garlic butter. This was accompanied by half a lobster and fries.
The lobster was sweet and succulent and removing it from its shell is part of the fun as you receive a seafood cracker (and instructions if you’re a novice) I also had a bite of the burger, 8 oz of 100% grilled beef, a decent slice of tomato and all the gubbins – also delicious.
My advice is definitely go. There’s something very decadent about eating lobster and this is the place to do so.
