Dry Jan / Our Editor’s Top Picks For Alcohol Free Fun

27 Dec, 2024

The Christmas festivities are well and truly behind us and some of you may be heaving a sigh of relief that life can finally return to normal. If you are considering taking part in Dry January, you’re not alone.

According to Alcohol Change UK, 215,000 people participated last year which is a 22% increase from 2023 and a whopping 60% increase from 2022. Benefits to leaving the hard stuff alone include; better sleep, increased energy, lower anxiety levels, improved mental health, brighter skin and saving tons of money. So basically you’ll be better looking, mentally balanced and richer – has to be a no-brainer right?

To stay on track download the free app though the Alcohol Change website that allows you set a time goal, take a drinking risk quiz and also gives the option to sign up to daily motivational emails with inspirational stories and discounts from their partners. Using the app has been shown to double your chances of succeeding for a full month (and beyond)

PLEASE NOTE: People who are alcohol dependent must seek advice for a medical expert as stopping completely can be detrimental to life. www.alcoholchange.org.uk

PUZZLE BORED: if you seek a quiet space to make a jigsaw puzzle or play some old school board games then this is the place for you. Relax with some mushroom coffee, Lion’s Maine or Reishi (both great for calm and focus) hot chocolate or regular coffee and cakes. www.puzzlebored.co.uk

KNOOPS. If it’s a seriously sexy hot chocolate you crave then we can’t recommend this venue enough. Choose white, milk or dark chocolate and cow, oat or soya milk. It’s akin to drinking a cup of melted chocolate and you also have the option to add homemade marshmallows or whipped cream. Heavenly! www.knoops.co.uk

MARROCCO’S. There’s nothing quite like a blustery walk along the seafront to blow those cobwebs away. Once you reach Hove you must visit Marrocco’s. Coke float? Yes please! There’s also milkshakes made with their homemade gelato and don’t get us started on the pizza! www.marroccos.co.uk

LOADING BAR. Packed to the rafters with electronic and board games with extremely comfy sofas, you’ll have much to distract you from drinking alcohol. Serving tea, coffee and hot chocolate, and non alcohol cocktails this seafront venue is the perfect balance between coffee shop and bar. www.loading.bar
