A weekend of ideas, art and activism
Next month, Brighton will host thousands of women from across the world for FiLiA – Europe’s largest grassroots feminist conference. From 10 – 12 October, the Brighton Centre will welcome more than 2,000 delegates and 250 speakers representing over 55 countries.
During three packed days, the programme will feature workshops, panels, films, art, performances and stalls, alongside a women-only party. The event is known for being a space where women’s voices are heard, ideas are shared, and connections are made.
Voices from Brighton and beyond
The conference will open with Sussex Police and Crime Commissioner Katy Bourne, who describes FiLiA as “an incredibly important space for bold conversations and for amplifying the views, thoughts and voices of women.”
Speakers will include women from Afghanistan, China and Colombia, as well as local campaigners and community leaders from Brighton, Hove and Sussex. CEO of FiLiA Lisa-Marie Taylor says: “We are delighted to be in Brighton for our 10th conference. The Brighton Centre is an excellent venue to welcome thousands of women to the city and enable them to connect and be heard.”
Local organisations, including Sisters Salon, are also helping to shape this important international gathering.
A historic return
This year’s conference carries extra significance. It marks the 29th anniversary of the International Conference on Violence, Abuse and Women’s Citizenship, which took place in Brighton in 1996 and attracted 2,500 people from 137 countries. Some of those delegates will return to the city this October to share their reflections and continue the conversation.
Join the conversation
Whether you are passionate about women’s rights, curious about feminism today, or simply want to experience a vibrant cultural event, FiLiA offers a unique opportunity to engage with voices from around the world right here in Brighton.
