SUMMARY:City Books Presents Love\, Anger & Betrayal
DESCRIPTION:City Books Presents Love\, Anger & Betrayal. \nBook Talk event- Jonathon Porritt in conversation with Caroline Lucas \nCITY BOOKS\npresent \nJONATHON PORRITT\nin conversation with\nCAROLINE LUCAS \nLOVE\, ANGER & BETRAYAL: \nJust Stop Oil’s young climate campaigners \n‘Magnificent and crucial. A lodestone for all we believe in.’ George Monbiot \nThe climate crisis deepens with terrifying predictability. Meanwhile\, the courageous young \ncampaigners who seek to wake us up to the truth of this\, through peaceful direct action\, are silenced and stuck in prison. Theirs is a generation systematically betrayed by politicians. And by all of us who allow this to continue\, on our watch\, year after year. \nJust Stop Oil stopped active campaigning in March 2025. But for most of its remarkable young activists\, the work of civil resistance goes on. Jonathon Porritt spent a year working with twenty-six Just Stop Oil campaigners to co-create ‘Love\, Anger & Betrayal’\, driven by a fierce commitment to intergenerational justice. All book sale profits will go towards supporting climate activism. \nFor more than fifty years\, Jonathon has been campaigning for the environment and social justice\, while simultaneously advising governments\, businesses and NGOs. The author of many highly respected books\, he still believes that it is ‘not too late’ to avoid climate breakdown. \n‘What a truly wonderful book\, born from years of deep experience. It’s realistic\, honest – and both frightening and hopeful. It’s appropriately angry at the forces of commerce and politics whose horizons don’t extend beyond the bottom line (or the next election). But it’s also a hymn of love and appreciation for the young people who are getting out on the streets to try to change our civilisational direction\, who are refusing to become obedient shoppers trapped on the capitalist hamster wheel\, who are inventing and building new futures for the rest of us – and who are now getting arrested and imprisoned for their efforts. Thank you Jonathon\, you’ve woken me up. I hope it wakes us all up.’ BRIAN ENO \n‘This moving book is a reminder of the massive debt we owe to those whose commitment and passion challenge us to think differently\, and then to act. ‘ TIM SMIT \n‘This is a deeply uncomfortable but overwhelmingly necessary book.’ CAROLINE LUCAS \nSIGNED COPIES OF ‘LOVE\, ANGER & BETRAYAL’ WILL BE ON SALE ON THE EVENING
