SUMMARY:Moments of Kalmfulness gallery
DESCRIPTION:Kalms Herbal Remedies\, a leading emotional wellbeing brand\, created the exhibition in response to research showing that 42% of UK adults struggle to find moments of calm in daily life. Originally developed as a digital sanctuary\, the Moments of Kalmfulness gallery has now been brought to life as a physical experience on Brighton’s iconic seafront. \nThe exhibition explores the concept of ‘kalmfulness’ – a state of feeling peaceful and balanced amid everyday life – and encourages people to embrace small\, achievable ways to reduce stress. \nKalmfulness can be found in simple\, everyday moments – from taking a few deep breaths to spending time outdoors or connecting with loved ones. This idea sits at the heart of the Moments of Kalmfulness gallery\, which brings these everyday moments to life through calming imagery designed to help visitors pause and reset. \nThe concept is supported by research showing the impact of visual calm. While 65% of UK adults say time outdoors helps them feel more relaxed\, over half (52%) say that even viewing images of nature or tranquil scenes can help them feel more at ease. \nVisitors can explore a carefully curated collection of images capturing moments of peace and tranquillity. The gallery includes contributions from the general public and local creatives\, including the Brighton and Hove Camera Club\, offering a range of perspectives on everyday moments of kalmfulness. \nThe Moments of Kalmfulness gallery is free to attend and open to all from 27th April to 17th May. \nFeeling inspired? \nUpload a photo to our virtual gallery that captures your own moment of kalmfulness to be in with the chance of winning a £450 voucher for a one-night escape at the PIG hotel. Submit your photo at www.kalmfulness.com \nT&Cs: Open to UK residents 18+. The competition runs from 27th April to 17th May. One winner will be contacted on 20th May. Full T&C’s can be found at www.kalmfulness.com/faqs

SUMMARY:Chunxiang's Schoolroom Prank (various dates)
DESCRIPTION:07/05/2026 6:30pm – 7:30pm \n09/05/2026 3:30pm – 4:30pm \n14/05/2026 6:30pm – 7:30pm \n16/05/2026 3:30pm – 4:30pm \nChunxiang’s Schoolroom Prank | Rooted in one of the earliest surviving versions of this beloved comic episode\, Chunxiang’s Schoolroom Prank offers a vibrant revival of classical (Chinese opera) Kunqu humour. Our reconstruction respects the elegant musicality and poetic wit of the original script\, while shaping it into a fresh theatrical language that speaks directly to contemporary audiences. \nCheeky\, clever Chunxiang turns a strict schoolroom upside down with quick timing\, lyrical banter and playful chaos. The production features the refined artistry of male dan performance — a classical cross-gender tradition — adding expressive nuance and a unique layer of theatrical beauty. Together\, the ensemble creates a lively blend of movement\, comedy and musical rhythm rarely seen on the modern stage. \nPerformed in a traditional Chinese operatic vocal style with Chinese and English surtitles\, the work offers an inviting introduction to the grace\, humour and expressive physicality of Kunqu. Whether you are encountering Chinese opera for the first time or returning as an enthusiast\, this joyful reimagining provides a colourful\, accessible and delightfully mischievous window into one of the world’s oldest operatic traditions.

Performed by a Huadan (female warrior role) and Hualian (painted-face male role)\, it presents an unusual and compelling pairing seldom seen in today’s Chinese opera. \nPerformed in a traditional Chinese operatic vocal style with Chinese and English surtitles\, the piece blends traditional operatic singing with clear\, modern staging. Whether you are discovering Chinese opera for the first time or returning as a long-time admirer\, this is a visually captivating and accessible introduction to one of the world’s most refined dramatic traditions.

SUMMARY:Ctrl+Alt+Jazz presents Toast Club
DESCRIPTION:Ctrl+Alt+Jazz presents Toast Club is the new promotions label started by Brighton jazz-rock band Meet Your Heroes. It was created to build a community of bands and artists pushing the jazz genre to its heavier fringes. Following the raucous C+A+J debut in London in April\, the fusion train rolls forth to The Bee’s Mouth in Hove on Thursday 14th May 2026\, as part of the Alt Alt Escape festival. \nOpening the show is Very Tiny Toads\, the Brighton supergroup made up of Josephine Davies\, Tim Wells and Angus Bishop. Second\, Big Trio bless the stage – the relentless local quartet you’ve probably seen performing their brand of ‘jazz your friends like’. Third will be hosts Meet Your Heroes\, a guitar trio fervently fusing math-rock and jazz. Finally we will witness Toast Club – the jazz-fusion aviators serving up breezy bangers\, including their runaway hit Café Pacific. \nThis is a free-entry event in the DIY spirit of the Alt Alt Escape. Don’t miss this epic lineup from Ctrl+Alt+Jazz.
