Nearly lost to time\, the piece survived only through fragmentary manuscripts and scattered oral accounts. Our team spent months researching surviving scores and archival traces to reconstruct the work with rigorous historical care and reimagine it with a vivid contemporary theatrical language. Following its 2025 appearance at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe\, this revival continues its international tour. \nSet in a dreamlike world where loyalty collides with destiny\, the story unfolds through striking physical movement\, expressive gesture and rich musicality. Performed by a Huadan (female warrior role) and Hualian (painted-face male role)\, it presents an unusual and compelling pairing seldom seen in today’s Chinese opera. \nPerformed in a traditional Chinese operatic vocal style with Chinese and English surtitles\, the piece blends traditional operatic singing with clear\, modern staging. Following the raucous C+A+J debut in London in April\, the fusion train rolls forth to The Bee’s Mouth in Hove on Thursday 14th May 2026\, as part of the Alt Alt Escape festival. \nOpening the show is Very Tiny Toads\, the Brighton supergroup made up of Josephine Davies\, Tim Wells and Angus Bishop. Second\, Big Trio bless the stage – the relentless local quartet you’ve probably seen performing their brand of ‘jazz your friends like’. Third will be hosts Meet Your Heroes\, a guitar trio fervently fusing math-rock and jazz. Building on the folk-rock essence of their debut\, the duo release of their highly anticipated second album\, Everything\, When Said Slowly\, 7th February 2025. This album unveils a richer\, more expansive sound\, masterfully produced by long-time collaborators Cillian and Lorcan Byrne (Ailbhe Reddy\, Susan O’Neill). The narrative woven throughout the album explores themes of Irish migration\, the perception of time\, love\, and the simple joys of cycling. \nBlood harmonies are the centre of The Ocelots’ sound – imperfections of a voice breaking or a tempo shifting. Recorded live in Orphan Recording Studios\, by Gavin Glass (Lisa Hannigan\, BellX1\, David Keenan\, John Grant\, Villagers)\, the band’s performances help form a driven\, energetic scrapbook\, coloured by flutes\, synths\, harmonica and harmonium. The twin brothers blend absurdity and sincerity in an array of literature-inspired musings. Open tunings and clawhammer banjo bring country-folk contemplation\, but the imagery is very much urban\, living outside of the romanticised glaze of wood cabins and cottage-core nostalgia.

The week-long art show also coincides with the Brighton Festival and Brighton Fringe\, a month-long celebration of arts\, culture and entertainment that brings thousands of tourists to the city every year. \nThe duo decided to start an affordable art fair in Brighton after noticing a lack of truly inclusive artist opportunities in the city. “Housed within the walls of the historic Unitarian\, smack bang in the centre of Brighton and a stone’s throw from the iconic Brighton Pavilion\, with an emphasis on affordability for all\, we’re giving artists the opportunity to sell their work in an amazing venue for a fraction of the cost of usual bloated art fair fees.
