Starlets of the silver screen

Introduce yourselves to our readers.

Rita: Hello there everybody! My name is Rita Herringbone.

Glenda: I’m Glenda Swing, but you knew that already.

Tell us about your journey from silver screen starlets of a bygone era to performing on HD stages in the modern world.

Glenda: Now of course we were in some great titles such as The Popcorn Sisters, Last One Home’s a Rotten Egg and I Guess That’s The Last of Me, which all  your readers will remember fondly, I’m sure. But sadly the invention of Technicolor meant the doors were open to pretty much any Jane with a dream and the studios exiled us from Hollywood.

Rita: But, you know, we started to perform live over the last few years, and I feel like we’ve really carved a space for ourselves in the wonderful world of cabaret! We’re so thrilled to be working again!

What can people expect when they come and see you perform?

Glenda: Well, they can sure expect me to be oh so happy to be there.

Rita: What Glenda means to say is – you can expect a musical journey of songs from the movies! We do a little something for everybody!

Where can we catch you in November?

Rita: We are so excited to be taking our show, Glenda & Rita: LIVE, to The Nest at Chichester Festival Theatre on 28 November! A celebration of our cinematic career – don’t miss it!

Glenda: It’ll be all of our classics from some of our greatest pictures of all time – and, should the moment present itself, I shall perform my big number from my big movie, The Big Number.

Tell us three things you love (or hate) about Brighton.

Glenda: As quaint British seaside towns go, I actually think Brighton is just swell. I can get a drink every five yards in this town. Marvellous.

Rita: Brighton is so nice and accepting of people who are different, like Glenda and myself. It’s a delight to walk down the street as an out and proud black-and-white individual with no harassment!
