Shining a light on World Homeless Day on 10 October
This autumn, a unique collaboration between Jules Emporium and homelessness charity Emmaus is set to light up Brighton, quite literally.
The partnership will see the launch of Raw Repurpose Lighting by Christian Coley, an inspiring showcase of creativity, sustainability and social impact. Emmaus is well known for its work providing housing, support and opportunities to people who have experienced homelessness. Residents, known as “companions”, are encouraged to rebuild their confidence and skills through community projects and creative enterprises.
Companion Christian Coley, has found a powerful way to combine artistry with environmental responsibility: transforming discarded objects into striking, functional lamps. By repurposing items that would otherwise end up in landfill, Coley not only gives waste materials a second life but also demonstrates the potential for beauty in the overlooked. Each lamp is one of a kind, quirky, stylish and full of character.
From October to December, Coley’s work will be on display in the rear gallery space at Jules Emporium, offering visitors the chance to browse and purchase his creations. All proceeds go directly to Emmaus, helping the charity continue its vital work supporting vulnerable people.
For Jules Emporium, the collaboration is about more than just aesthetics. It reflects a shared commitment to community, sustainability and giving a platform to voices that are often unheard. “It’s about supporting people’s talents, keeping materials out of landfill and showing what can be achieved when you give someone the space to create,” explains owner Jules. “Raw Repurpose Lighting by Christian Coley is proof that design can do more than illuminate a room, it can illuminate lives.”
