Less screen time, more fun experiences

29 Apr, 2025

Have you heard about Yuup? Newly launched in Brighton & Hove, this well-established experience company is all about connecting you with exciting things to do around the city – while supporting small, independent businesses at the same time.

Using Yuup couldn’t be easier. Just create an account, browse the wide range of experiences on offer and pick whatever catches your eye. I was lucky enough to be invited to try out two experiences, the first was an Introduction to Ceramics and Surface Design Techniques.

The class took place in a spacious, light-filled art studio led by the calm and knowledgeable pottery instructor, Helen Rebecca. I hadn’t done anything pottery-related since primary school, but that didn’t matter. Over the two-hour session, I learned how to mould clay into a small pot using my hands and simple tools. Helen guided us step by step in a relaxed, encouraging environment, and I was genuinely surprised by what I created.

Once finished, our pieces were left with Helen to be fired in the kiln and collected two weeks later. The experience was surprisingly meditative, and I left feeling calm and recharged. It’s something you could easily do solo, everyone was super-friendly, and the vibe was warm and welcoming.

Next up was a Brighton walking food tour – a brilliant way to explore the city through its vibrant culinary scene. We met our friendly guide Phillip outside St Bart’s Church, where he gave us a rundown of the tour. It’s not just about eating (though there’s plenty of that); you also get to learn about Brighton’s rich history, with fascinating titbits shared along the way. Even as a local, I discovered things I never knew.

Our first stop was The Open Market, where we sampled a delicious, authentic curry from Mohammed at Spice of Life – who also happens to be the current Mayor of Brighton. He and his wife were delightful, and the food was amazing.

With five stops that vary each time, this is an experience you could enjoy again and again – a perfect way to discover hidden gems and support local food spots. Head over to Instagram or Tik Tok for the visual experience
