Mudhoney formed in Seattle on the first day of the year in 1988 following the demise of Green River, a band that included members that went on to form Mother Love Bone and Pearl Jam. Singer Mark Arm and guitarist Steve Turner began songwriting with Dan Peters, the drummer for Bundle of Hiss since the age of 15 and named themselves after a Russ Meyer film. The same year they released their debut, Superfuzz Bigmuff, and the single Touch Me I’m Sick on the Sub Pop label. Sonic Youth were big fans and invited them to join them on their 1989 UK tour which gave the band a large amount of press coverage and their EP entered the British indie charts. Nirvana’s Kurt Cobain was another fan and Mudhoney became one of the flagship bands of the emerging Grunge movement. Last year they released their twelfth studio album, Plastic Eternity.
