Natty’s Jerk Kitchen & Rum Stop Review

Chances are you’ve driven past Natty’s Jerk Kitchen & Rum Stop on Preston Road, just a short walk from Preston Park. This award-winning eatery serves authentic Caribbean food that will blow your mind.

We grabbed a seat at the bar and ordered two of their signature bowls. The jerk chicken bowl came piled high and was perfectly seasoned with just the right amount of smoky heat, accompanied by fluffy rice and peas, sweet fried plantain and a fresh, crunchy coleslaw.

The mutton curry bowl was equally impressive. The meat was incredibly tender, falling apart with the gentlest touch of a fork, while the rich, aromatic curry had clearly been slow-cooked to develop deep layers of flavour.

Paired with the rice and peas, caramelised plantain and crisp slaw, it was pure comfort food. I’ve eaten a lot of Caribbean food over the years, but this is the best I’ve ever tasted.

Of course, no Caribbean feast would be complete without something tropical to drink, so we treated ourselves to one of Natty’s Piña Colada slushies, which packed more of a punch than expected! It was the perfect accompaniment to the food and felt like sunshine in a cup.

For rum lovers Natty’s delivers with several different offerings to choose from. If you’re feeling particularly adventurous you could always add an extra shot to one of the slushies.

What makes Natty’s Jerk Kitchen & Rum Stop stand out isn’t just the quality of the ingredients or the generous portions – it’s the care that goes into every dish. You can taste the love, the heritage and the confidence behind the cooking. Nothing felt rushed or overcomplicated. It was honest, authentic food that lets bold flavours do all the talking.

Brighton is blessed with an incredible food scene, but every now and then you stumble across somewhere that genuinely raises the bar. Natty’s Jerk Kitchen & Rum Stop is one of those places, and I know I’ll be back to work my way through the rest of the menu.

If you’re craving proper Caribbean comfort food that delivers on every level, put this at the very top of your must-visit list.
