Pull & Pump: A Brighton classic reborn

28 Nov, 2025

There’s something deeply satisfying about a pub that remembers what it really is. After a few years of reinvention and experimentation under various names, (most recently The Cauldron), Brighton’s Pull & Pump has returned to its roots – and thank goodness it has.

Tucked just off Western Road on Clarence Gardens, the Pull & Pump has always had classic Brighton charm – a proper pub with a loyal following and a lived-in atmosphere. Under new ownership, it’s been lovingly restored to the traditional format locals remember fondly: real ales, friendly faces, good food and conversation flowing across the bar.

Step inside and you’ll find a space that’s both familiar and refreshed. The new team haven’t tried to reinvent the wheel, instead, they’ve leaned into everything that made the Pull & Pump great in the first place. Think polished wood, snug corners, a well-kept bar and that unmistakable buzz of laughter that says, “This is a proper Brighton pub.”

On tap, you’ll find a strong mix of local craft brews and trusted favourites, poured with pride and best enjoyed with friends. The venue serves gourmet pizzas, already gaining a loyal following. Add in a selection of wines and spirits and you’ve got the makings of an easy, reliable local that welcomes everyone. There are also regular karaoke nights, where you can sing your heart out.

The pub is also refreshingly inclusive: dogs are welcome at any time and families can join the fun until early evening. The overall vibe is relaxed, warm and neighbourly, the kind of place where first-timers become regulars. In an age of themed bars and fleeting trends, the Pull & Pump stands as a reminder of why traditional pubs still matter. It’s not about spectacle, it’s about people, community and that simple joy of a great pint shared in good company.

Brighton has lost a few good locals over the years, but this one feels like a comeback story worth celebrating.
