Sean Alexander – Cooler than you
This month we chat to Sean Alexander, a stylist with 19 years in the game and zero interest in playing it safe. Known for fearless colour and sharp cuts that accentuate, Sean doesn’t do beige. Find him every Friday and Saturday at The Hair Salon in Hove, if you’re ready to level up, he’s currently offering 20% off your first visit.
You’re known for your colourful work as a stylist – what’s been your favourite ‘do’ to date? That’s almost impossible to answer! One of my most sentimental favourites was a professional shoot I created in 2019 to mark going self-employed. It featured layered pink tones with a sharp, edgy cut, but what truly made it was the model’s attitude. The contrast between the soft, traditionally ‘girly’ pink palette and the strength of the cut, paired with her unapologetic expression, created something really striking.

We noticed you’ve got your own hair products with sassy branding – can you tell us about them? Absolutely! The range is an extension of my personality – professional, playful and edgy. The formulas are sulphate-free, paraben-free and palm-oil-free, with a core collection that’s fully vegan and colour-safe. Sustainability is very important to me so the bottles and jars are made from infinitely recycled amber glass. The branding brings the fun, but performance is everything. They’re currently stocked at the Stanley Road store in Brighton, which feels like the perfect creative home for them.
Who are your style icons/who inspires you? I’m currently obsessed with Connor Storrie’s fashion, it’s fluid, modern and effortlessly cool. I’m always drawn to androgynous styling in both hair and fashion. I really admire Tilda Swinton and Hunter Schafer for the way they blur masculine and feminine lines so naturally. That balance of strength and softness heavily influences how I approach silhouette and texture in my work.
Tell us three things you love about Brighton. The variety, the eccentricity and the creativity. Brighton is a true melting pot of expressive, interesting people. There’s an openness to individuality here that feels energising. And, of course, I love The Hair Salon. Ollie and the team have been incredibly supportive in helping me grow in this new chapter of my career.
