What’s On Brighton Highlights 11-16/3 @Theatre Royal 6.45pm, 2.30pm (14th & 16th)
The 1992 film was one of the most financially successful comedies of the decade and made a star of Whoopi Goldberg. In 2006 the stage play debuted at the Pasadena Playhouse in California and became the highest grossing show ever at the venue. In 2011 it hit Broadway and received five Tony Award nominations including Best Musical. Now, a brand new production hits the stage of the Theatre Royal. West End star Landi Oshinowo stars as Delores, a disco diva whose life takes an unexpected turn when she witnesses a murder. She is hidden in a convent where she is encouraged to help the struggling choir and aids her fellow sisters to find their true voices, while unexpectedly rediscovering her own. Featuring original music, inspired by Motown, soul and disco, written by 8 time Oscar winner Alan Menken, Coronation Street legend Sue Cleaver also stars as Mother Superior from Thursday.
