This comedy rock duo was formed in Los Angeles in 1994 by actors Jack Black and Kyle Gass. After a HBO TV show and support slots with Pearl Jam, Tool and Beck, they signed to Epic Records in 2000. The year after they released their eponymous debut album, which featured Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl. In 2006 they starred in the poorly received film, Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny but this did not stop them packing out arenas on the accompanying tour and a third album, Rize of the Fenix, released in 2012, made light of the commercial failure. In 2014 the band won a Grammy for their cover of a Ronnie James Dio song. Last year they sold out shows in Las Vegas, released a hit song and, with over a million Instagram followers, showed that they remain the Greatest Band That Ever Played on Planet Earth.
