September always feels like a fresh page, but this one’s been extra sparkly as it was my 46th birthday month. I kicked things off in true Brighton style with a trip to Taylormania at the Dome. No, not the actual Taylor (a girl can dream), but the tribute show was pure fun: glitter, sing-alongs and a reminder that sometimes it’s good to just let yourself be a Swiftie for the night.
The kids went back to school (yippee). I adore them, but there are only so many KPop Demon Hunters marathons a mum can sit through before craving adult conversation. Even the characters were starting to feel like house guests.
To toast another lap around the sun, I had the tastiest dinner at Plateau with my girlfriends – oh, how I love this place – great food, better cocktails and that lovely buzz you only get from proper catch-ups. Brighton’s food scene keeps levelling up; I left plotting excuses to go back (as if I needed one).
And because birthdays always nudge me to shake things up, I’ve gone full bio-hacking mode this month. Ice baths, red light, mouth tape at night – you name it, I’m trying it. I even made a pilgrimage to the Health Optimisation Summit, where I met two of my wellness heroes, Davinia Taylor and Gary Brecka. Both have been game-changers in helping me lift my mood, boost my energy and generally feel more on top of life. Maybe it’s about squeezing every drop of vitality from these slightly shorter autumn days, or maybe I just enjoy an excuse for new gadgets – either way, I’m hooked.
What I do know is Brighton is the perfect place to experiment, reflect and still squeeze in a sea swim between school runs. Here’s to a month of music, friendship, frosty dips and reclaiming the remote from animated demon slayers.
I’m excited for October, it’s spooky season and we go full-on Halloween mode in our house and, yes, we love trick or treating, who doesn’t? Plus we’ve decided to host a party, more on that in the next column. There are so many great things on my radar this month and I will defo be taking a trip down to Stanmer Park to do our annual kids spooky hunt in the gardens, together with a hot choc in hand.
