Jack and the Beanstalk at Doubletree Hilton Brighton Review

Pantomime is a much-loved Christmas tradition, bringing families and friends together over the festive season and Brighton Family Panto’s Jack and the Beanstalk at the DoubleTree by Hilton captures that spirit perfectly.

Dedicated to the late, great Jason Sutton, AKA Miss Jason, after whom the theatre is also named – the production is proudly supported by local businesses including Brighton i360 and Donatello’s, giving the show a strong sense of community from the outset.

Audiences are immediately drawn into the story through high-energy performances, impressive staging and plenty of audience participation as Jack sets out to outwit the evil giant and his consort, win the princess’s heart, rescue Daisy the cow, and free his family from poverty.

Mother Nature acts as narrator, delivering amusing asides and providing one of the show’s standout moments by encouraging the children to help make the beanstalk grow, shaking bells handed out on arrival.

Contemporary musical numbers run throughout the show, prompting enthusiastic sing-alongs and keeping the energy levels high. Classic pantomime moments from “He’s behind you!” to “Oh no we won’t!” had the audience clapping, dancing and laughing along.

Daisy the Cow, played by Alfie Ordinary, is a particular highlight, delivering a hilarious performance complemented by dazzling costumes. Brighton’s own Allen Jay is equally engaging as Jack’s brother, bringing warmth and infectious energy, especially during the charming finale involving young audience volunteers.

This is a joyful, inclusive production that fully embraces the magic of pantomime. With a committed cast giving their all, Jack and the Beanstalk is a heartwarming and thoroughly entertaining experience for audiences of all ages. Book now!
