Your Mortgage Room

Your Mortgage Room. Supporting self-employed, freelance and business owners on the path to home ownership.

For many people living and working in Brighton and Hove, buying a home can feel uncertain – particularly if you are self-employed, freelance or running your own business. When income does not follow a traditional monthly pattern, understanding how mortgages work, and whether home ownership is realistic, can be difficult.

Your Mortgage Room is an independent, female-led mortgage brokerage based in Brighton, working largely with self-employed people, creatives and business owners. We support clients whose income may include dividends, contract work, multiple revenue streams or retained profits, and whose circumstances are not always easily understood by high-street lenders.

Rather than relying on a standard formula, I take time to understand how each client works, how they are paid and what they hope to achieve.

From there, I identify lenders whose criteria align with that individual profile, and help structure applications in a way that reflects their circumstances clearly and accurately.

My work is guided by three simple principles: transparency, education and client-first advice. This means explaining options clearly, answering questions openly, and offering guidance that is practical and realistic.

For some clients, this involves using limited company accounts, dividends or contract income as part of an application. For others, it may mean putting a short-term plan in place before applying, so they feel better prepared. There is no pressure and no expectation, only support and information.

While many clients look to buy in Brighton and Hove, we also work with those exploring nearby areas where prices and opportunities can differ, while remaining connected to the city and its creative communities.

Buying a home is rarely just about numbers. It is often about stability, independence and feeling settled. If you are self-employed, freelance or run a business and are unsure where you stand, the first step is simply a conversation.
