Print is the new luxury: Cover Story Brighton is putting magazines back on the high street
Brighton is getting a new home for the magazines you actually want to keep. Forget celebrity gossip and supermarket shelves. Cover Story Brighton is bringing fashion, photography, music, art, film, culture and seriously good independent magazines to the city.
Launching this autumn, Cover Story is a new independent magazine shop created by Brighton-based Leah Bancroft, with the mission to make discovering print exciting again.
Think cult fashion titles, underground photography magazines, music publications, queer print, independent art journals and beautifully designed magazines from around the world – the kind of publications you don’t just read, you keep.

“Brighton has an incredible creative scene, but we couldn’t understand why there wasn’t a proper magazine shop here,” says founder Leah. “We wanted to create somewhere that felt exciting to walk into – somewhere you could discover something you’ve never seen before.”
Rather than waiting for a permanent shop, Cover Story is taking over Brighton with a series of pop-ups throughout September and October, appearing in independent venues across the city.
The first is at Starfish & Coffee on Friday 25 September, followed by events at Spro Coffee Co., Dukes at Komedia and Bearly Awake, with more dates to be announced.
The pop-ups will also feature collaborations, magazine launches and events celebrating the people and communities behind independent print.
Cover Story’s philosophy is simple: PRINT IS THE NEW LUXURY. And in a world of endless scrolling, sometimes the best thing you can do is pick something up, flick through it and get lost in it.
