Our Roots

Wondering what to do this New Years Eve? Discover caught up with the team behind Our Roots, an LGBTQ+ (and allies) club event and safe space with inclusivity at its heart to find out more

Our Roots is a one-of-a-kind event created by Brighton’s own legendary queer club nights UOKHUN?, Polyglamorous and Gal Pals. These club powerhouses have been brought together to create an unforgettably colourful celebration of queer chaos at the iconic Brighton Dome. The event launched at this years Brighton Festival and was sold out, so organising a New Years Eve event was a no brainer for the team.

But who is behind this revolutionary new club night?

Polyglamorous is a Brighton based chromatic queer club night, combining nightlife, art, fashion, music and dance. Its four resident DJs always aim to create a dancefloor that guests can lose themselves in, as well as platforming as many queer artists as possible.

GalPals is a queer dance party centring queer women, trans and non-binary people. It was created to address the lack of safe spaces for queer women, trans, non-binary and gender non-conforming people. They aim to create a dancefloor where these groups can let loose and feel safe and free to party in a space where they are the majority.

Our Roots has been created for the LGBTQIA+ community and its allies, with the goal of providing a safe space for all attendees. This event has a zero tolerance policy for hate or harassment of any kind, and individuals who do not adhere to this policy will be asked to leave. Consent is mandatory, and individuals must ask for consent before touching any other participant (this includes their hair, belongings and mobility aids). Remember to always ask, rather than assume, someone’s gender or sexuality. If you are made to feel uncomfortable in any way, you are encouraged to speak to a team member.
