Bombay Bicycle Club – 3/2

28 Jan, 2024

Named after a chain of now defunct Indian restaurants in North London, the band were formed in 2005 by Jack Steadman, Jamie MacColl (nephew of Kirsty) and Suren de Saram (the son of Sri Lankan cellist Rohan) when they met at school. After a couple of years they had attracted the attention of the music press and played the Reading and Leeds Festivals. After all members had left school they concentrated fully on the band and were signed by Island Records. Their second album, Flaws, went straight into the album charts at no.8. After a further two albums they announced a hiatus in 2016 but returned three years later with Everything Else Has Gone Wrong. Last year they released their sixth studio album, My Big Day, which includes contributions from Damon Albarn, Jay Som, Nilufer Yanya and Chaka Khan. Support comes from Isle of Wight indie rockers Coach Party.
