Mamma I Love You

Mother’s Day Treats, One Garden Brighton 9th – 10th March 2024.

How many of you know the history of Mother’s Day itself? We did some digging to find out how and why the special day occurs and were shocked at our findings…

During the Middle Ages it was not uncommon for children as young as 10 years old to be separated from their families to go away to work. A tradition began for allowing people and children who moved away to return to their homes or ‘mother’ churches to be reunited with their actual mothers and families once a year (yikes). This annual visit would occur on the 4th Sunday of Christian Lent. The special day went on to become Mothering Sunday as we now know it and as the dates of Lent vary, so does Mother’s Day. Thankfully things have changed dramatically since then, (for a start children are no longer forced away from their families as child labour) and Mother’s Day has become a way of showing love and giving thanks to the person who raised, guided and gave love to you growing up.

If you’re wondering how to celebrate this year, our friends at One Garden Brighton have created an unforgettable Mother’s Day weekend (yes, a whole weekend) to remember, with everything from brunch, lunch and workshops that are guaranteed to put a smile on mum’s face.

On Mother’s Day Saturday you can start the morning off right with a hand-tied bouquet workshop from 10.30am – 12pm or 1.30pm – 3pm. Engage in a hands-on experience crafting beautiful hand-tied bouquets guided by One Garden’s expert florists. Create a personalised masterpiece to take home as a token of appreciation for your mum. Imagine her face when you walk through the door with your very own bespoke bouquet of her favourite blooms. Brownie points galore. Workshops are between 9.30am – 11.30am

If it’s food and fun on the agenda then you and your mum can enjoy a Bottomless Brunch on Mother’s Day Saturday – choose from a variety of delicious brunch items from the varied menu and make it boozy for a £22 supplement per person which allows 1.5 hours of Mimosas, Prosecco or Bellinis.

If you prefer to celebrate in a more traditional way on Mother’s Day Sunday, you and the whole family can enjoy a 2-3 course roast dinner between 12pm – 4pm, with a range of children’s options available. We tried and tested the food ourselves and are happy to report that it was delicious. Check our Instagram page for video footage of our experience.
