Unlocking Transformation Through Adornment.

Our editor has fun at a brand new headdress and hat making workshop that encourages creativity and the art of play with festival vibes.

I was excited to receive an invitation to the press launch of Haus of Vagabond, a brand new workshop that promised to be an afternoon of unadulterated creativity.

We arrived at The Joker, where the upstairs event space had been procured for the day’s proceedings. Our hosts Karen and Lou greeted us with glasses of bubbles and beautiful cupcakes, both were adorned in showstopping feather headdresses (made by themselves) and outfits as colourful as their personalities. The room itself was an instagrammers dream, several beautifully arranged tables with glue guns sat in front of a neon Haus of Vagabond sign. The front table adorned with baskets of trinkets, feathers, jewels and fake flowers was an Aladdin’s cave of treasures – and an indication of what was to come.

The ladies welcomed us to the session, describing it as ‘the art of play’ and invited us to ignite the magic of adornment with the hope it would be personally transformative and bring us much joy. And much joy ensued. The brand’s ethos was also explained, ‘Our workshops celebrate the transformative power of adornment, inviting guests into a realm of creativity and self-discovery. Embracing each piece of decoration, the aim is for participants to elevate their appearance and forge deeper connections with themselves and each other.’

You can choose to make a headdress, head fan or hat and we opted to make feather headdresses for upcoming festivals this summer. Instruction was given for each piece and then we were unleashed on the glue guns and invited to choose anything we wanted from the aforementioned Aladdin’s table.

Frida Kahlo was my inspo and I made a gorgeous feathery creation topped off with a third eye jewel as a centerpiece with fake flowers and gold chains adorning the sides. Karen and Lou were on hand to offer guidance and encouragement throughout the session and by the end everyone had bonded, proudly modeling their creations.

Once the group had completed their projects we were photographed in our couples and together as a group and given a choice of sparkly sunglasses and earrings to complete the look. The thing I loved the most was that by the time we left we all looked as vibrant as our hosts and were all in such high spirits. Drinks were enjoyed together afterwards and The Joker’s legionary chicken wings scoffed.

To say we enjoyed the session is an understatement, it certainly passed the Discover vibe check and made for a fun afternoon that I highly recommend. These workshops are the perfect hen parties, birthday parties or as a ‘just because’ experience.
