Death From Above 1979

28 Jun, 2024

The band started in 2001 in the basement of an old funeral home when Canadians Jesse F. Keeler and Sebastien Grainger got together to form a rhythm section for a bigger project after reportedly meeting at a Sonic Youth concert. They soon realised that they had everything they needed with just the two of them and proceeded to play gigs as a duo. They released their debut album, You’re a Woman, I’m a Machine, in 2004 and added 1979 to their name when they received a cease and desist letter from founder of LCD Soundsystem, James Murphy’s record label Death From Above. They broke up in 2006 but reformed in 2011 to play the Coachella Festival and release their second album, The Physical World. Outrage is Now was followed by their latest album, 4 Lovers, in 2021. This year they have returned with a new single, Turn It Out XX.
